3311月17日 zt: WORLD IDEOLOGIES EXPLAINED BY REFERENCE TO COWS从来没转过帖子,这个太搞笑了要分享下。。。
FEUDALISM
You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk. SOCIALISM You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you a glass of milk. FASCISM You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk. PURE COMMUNISM You share two cows with your neighbors. You and your neighbors bicker about who has the most "ability" and who has the most "need". Meanwhile, no one works, no one gets any milk, and the cows drop dead of starvation. RUSSIAN COMMUNISM You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk. You steal back as much milk as you can and sell it on the black market. PERESTROIKA You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the Mafia takes all the milk. You steal back as much milk as you can and sell it on the "free" market. CAMBODIAN COMMUNISM You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you. DICTATORSHIP You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you. PURE DEMOCRACY You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk. REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk. BUREAUCRACY You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. Then it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows. CAPITALISM You don't have any cows. The bank will not lend you money to buy cows, because you don't have any cows to put up as collateral. PURE ANARCHY You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to take the cows and kill you. ANARCHO-CAPITALISM You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull. SURREALISM You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons. OLYMPICS-ISM You have two cows, one American, one Chinese. With the help of trilling violins and state of the art montage photography, John Tesh narrates the moving tale of how the American cow overcame the agony of growing up in a suburb with (gasp) divorced parents, then mentions in passing that the Chinese cow was beaten every day by a tyrannical farmer and watched its parents butchered before its eyes. The American cow wins the competition, severely spraining an udder in a gritty performance, and gets a multi-million dollar contract to endorse Wheaties. The Chinese cow is led out of the arena and shot by Chinese government officials, though no one ever hears about it. McDonald's buys the meat and serves it hot and fast at its Beijing restaurant. AMERICAN CORPORATE CAPITALISM Both cows are bloated with toxic steroids. They are set out to graze on privatized public parks, release massive amounts of flatulence that destroys the ozone layer, die from excess ultraviolet light, and are processed into meat-like products that look great as a result of clever and unprincipled marketing strategies. When you mortgage your artificially devalued farm at high interest rates in order to buy meat, you consume the poisoned material and develop terminal illnesses because there is no health care plan to treat you. The corporate management uses your purchase price to acquire THEIR meat from cows raised "naturally" on tree-free rain forest land outside of the country where labor and resources are cheap. BRITISH REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY Both cows are mad
My Kind of TownChicago is undisputably the museum of achitectures. There are other cosmopolitans with numerous great skyscrapers, but those in Chicago are so grand and yet relentlessly ornamented that they appear to possess some kind of overwhelming beauty...there is a definite wow factor in the dark and serious-looking Willis Tower, the elegant and (still) stylish Wrigley building, the witty and mordern smurfit-stone building, the Prudential Plazas etc...
Walking down the magnificent mile, a tourist would be singing "cannot take my eyes of you" in his heart. Every each single building has some uniqueness to discover. The city and its achitects have kepted on adding new touches on this ever-finished landscape along the years.
If they survived until now, the actual users of the water tower must be surprised to see how the buildings growing around it have dwarfed the tower. The Millennium Park has a good blend of nature and contemporary arts. The bean (officially Cloud Gate) sitting in the centre of the park artistically engages the surrounding magnificent architectures into a bent miniature - what a convenient steal! or more appropriately an efficient copy?
A city without water is without a soul. If Lake Michigan is a shiny big pearl gifted by God to Chicago, then the Chicago river must be the running blood in the veins of the dynamic city... On a sunny day, a boat trip along the river offers a floating view inside the museum of achitectures. Or if you have already made the effort to walk down the magnificent mile, a boat tour on the Michigan gives a sketch of the beautiful skyline from another prospect.
The Art Insititute has abundant pieces to explore for a whole day. There are great works of Monet, Van Gogh, Pierre-Auguste Renoir etc etc, if you are into impressionism. I was quite pleased to first see a reproduction of Beata Beatrix in a panel, with the original much easier to access in Tate Britain. A live proof that great arts do get around the globe...
The expanded suburb of the city also has some ordinary charms to offer. The only shame is it is so expanded that people actually do not take much time out of their houses or cars. The view of a young family of deers is certainly not quite a surprise if you do take notice of the warning signs for "deers crossing" on the side of the roads.
All should start and end in Frank Sinatra's deep voice, yes "one town that wont let you down"... 8月29日 My pre-Raphaelite fever & Saturday Passtime最近天天在地铁站里看到一幅吸引眼球的画展广告<Circe offering the cup to Odysseus> 于是知道了John W. Waterhouse, 于是知道了pre-Raphelite arts的其他人物,又于是看了BBC 2的costume drama <Desperate Romantics>.
P.S: today's sketch.
I will have to put down a warning here".
I urge you to run to the boarding gate as half of the passengers are already on board...
"YOU got a warning back in March, didn't go???" "Sorry I didn't find time, but I will go today or tomorrow." "Why should I believe you that you are going today or tomorrow given that you haven't gone yet since March??!!" "......I am taking a day off tomorrow. And I will go."(其实我是想说,3月入境的时候我说"OK,I will." You are required by the BRITISH government to go then you should MAKE time for it. What if you are required by the Chinese government?"(这句的逻辑我没明白。 最后加了句"if you don't go this time, you will be REFUSED~ to be registered."
末了还是学习,GIPS(考生"阿弥驼佛"的替代词)... an old band, but a recent fever for me...drug plagued once but spiritually inspring
